Creating a band
The history of the band began in 1994. However, its name was different, Kara’s Flowers. Then, the band consisted of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Adam Levine, keyboardist Jesse Carmichael and bassist and drummer Ryan Dusick. They studied together at one of the schools in Los Angeles. Friendship and love for music united them in a band. However, at the beginning of its existence, it was not a pop group. Most of the members performed in the genre of indie rock. The first concert of the group Kara’s Flowers took place in the fall of 1995 at the club The Whisky in Los Angeles. Hundreds of people who were interested in the band’s music came to the first concert.
Two years after the first performance, the group Kara’s Flowers began cooperation with the label Reprise Records and work on the debut album. Producer Rob Cavallo worked with the musicians in the studio. The album entitled The Fourth World was released in the summer of 1997 and received favorable reviews from critics. In support of the first album, the team went on a tour together with the bands Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger. Then, Kara’s Flowers performed at the warm-up. After the first performances on the big stage, the musicians experienced a creative stagnation and began to think about changing their sound. Thus, the work with the Reprise Records label was completed. A new member appeared in the band. It was guitarist James Valentine. They managed to find their own unique sound that combined different styles, such as soul, pop, rock and roll and rhythm and blues. This is evident from a number of songs from Kara’s Flowers of that time, namely This Love, Sunday Morning, Secret and Not Coming Home. These compositions were taken as the basis of the album Songs About Jane. The musicians debuted with it in a new composition under a new name, Maroon 5. Subsequently, the search for a new label for further cooperation began. It became the independent recording company Octone Records. The musicians went to Los Angeles to record new masterpieces. There, they cooperated with the famous producer Matt Wallace. The long-awaited album Songs About Jane was released on June 22, 2002.

First success
They performed on the stage of the most popular clubs in Los Angeles with their solo concerts, as well as supporting Michelle Branch, Evan & Jaron, Nikka Costa and other artists. The number of their fans grew every day. Musicians gave live concerts and their songs were heard on radio. The track Harder to Breathe became a real hit. It entered the top 30 in the rating of modern rock and took the 18th place in the chart Billboard Hot 100. The album Songs About Jane reached the 102nd position of The Billboard 200 and became the winner of the Top Heatseekers rating.
The band’s next single, This Love, was also a great success. The track became a real sensation. It topped the VH1, MTV and Top 40 charts at the same time. The album sold more than 3 million copies. After that, the musicians were awarded with prestigious awards, including Breakthrough of the Year at the MTV Europe Music Awards, three awards from The Billboard magazine and two nominations for the Grammy Award. Other popular singles from the album were Must Get Out and Sunday Morning.

Music albums
In the summer of the following year, the band presented the acoustic mini-album Acoustic 1.22.03, which sold out 500,000 copies in 6 months. In 2005, the musicians released the live album Live Friday the 13th, a set of CD and DVD with a recording of their concert. During the tour, band member Ryan Dusick suffered several injuries that prevented him from working. The drummer repeatedly took a break from his activities and a temporary replacement was invited to take his place. However, in September 2006, Ryan finally left the team. After that, Matt Flynn became a full-fledged member of Maroon 5.
In March 2007, a new album of the group was released, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long. The musicians admitted in an interview that they worked on the album under the influence of the work of some famous artists of the 1980s, including Prince, Michael Jackson and Talking Heads. The first single from the record, Makes Me Wonder, became the winner of the American chart Billboard Hot 100. Other singles were Won’t Go Home Without You, Wake Up Call, Goodnight Goodnight and If I Never See Your Face Again featuring Rihanna.
In 2008, they released a live album Live from SoHo and a collection of remixes Call & Response: The Remix Album. In addition, the band’s lead singer Adam Levine worked with Alicia Keys and Kanye West. The next year, the band went to Switzerland to record the new album Hands All Over. It was released on September 21, 2010.
In 2011, the song Moves Like Jagger, recorded together with Christina Aguilera, premiered as part of the TV show The Voice. The artists sang this song live and it also appeared on iTunes. The single took first place in the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In 2012, the official website of Maroon 5 published an announcement about the temporary termination of Jesse Carmichael’s activities as part of the team. The keyboardist planned to devote himself to musical education and the art of healing. The band continued with guest keyboardist PJ Morton.

Experimental track
In 2011, this American band set the task of creating an original composition from scratch in 24 hours. One of the London studios was chosen for the experiment. The musicians did not work on the task alone. Loyal supporters and music lovers helped them. For the first time in history, fans could watch the process online and participate in it. Thanks to modern technologies, the band could interact with the audience, coordinate rhythm and rhymes. Fans from all over the world could also ask questions and vote for different versions of the song. At the end of the day, the group coped with the task, although they were exhausted.
In 2024, the group Maroon 5 celebrated the 10th anniversary of the release of the famous album V with a new vinyl release. The band’s fifth studio album reintroduced elements of the sound that made the band successful. The album V marked a return to a more rock atmosphere. Another step back to the earlier dynamic was the long-awaited return of Jesse Carmichael. The album’s recording sessions lasted a little longer than usual throughout the year, as the band members were busy with promotional commitments, touring and other work. The album debuted at the top of the weekly Billboard 200 chart. Since their debut in 2002, the band has sold over 15 million albums in the US and over 100 million singles and 27 million albums worldwide.
