His childhood and adolescence took place in the Castle Heights area of the Westside. The mother of the future actor worked as an accountant at the University of California Los Angeles. Perhaps this may have played a role in his later educational choices. Meanwhile, his father ran a one-hour photo shop.

In the fall of 1993, the young man began his studies at UCLA. Notably, while attending, he co-founded one of the largest and longest-running Asian American theater companies on campus, known as ‘Lapu, the Coyote that Cares.’ Today, students recognize it as the LCC Theatre Company. Randall Park’s first full-length play, Treehouse Bachelor Society, was showcased in the Northwest Auditorium.

Park volunteered as CareMoose for UCLA UniCamp, an official charity organization, while he was studying. He completed his bachelor’s degree in English in 1997, focusing on creative writing and Asian American Studies at UCLA. By 1999, he had also obtained a master’s degree in Asian American Studies.

After graduating, he spent a few years working as a graphic and print designer for the New Times LA newspaper.

His next life change came when he was laid off. Randall Park thought about pursuing architecture, but he needed to complete certain prerequisite courses. He didn’t succeed in those courses, leading him to realize that he no longer wanted to continue his studies.

LCC Theatre Company

Randall Park found his time with LCC Theatre Company to be profoundly significant. This experience sparked a desire in the young man to pursue acting. Even after he graduated, he remained involved with fellow alumni from the university.

Additionally, it’s worth highlighting the mission of this theater company, which focuses on amplifying Asian American voices in the arts. The company actively encouraged university students from the Asian American community to showcase their talents and creativity through various forms such as writing, theater, music, video and more. This initiative not only enhances the visibility of Asian Americans but also challenges the stereotypes that contribute to negative perceptions of the community.

The organization was established in 1995. Since that time, it has been dedicated to helping students achieve their dreams in writing, directing and acting. This story is a remarkable transformation, showcasing how a small writing group evolved into the largest Asian American theater company in the nation. With more than 30 talented actors, the theater company entertains thousands of audience members each year.

The LCC Theatre Company at UCLA showcases its talent in various venues outside the campus. For example, the actors have participated in events such as the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books and have taken part in numerous competitions.

This vibrant company is made of students and emerging professionals from diverse fields, majors and cultural backgrounds, all brought together by their passion for performance. Since its inception, the company has focused on original scripts, plays and short scenes, but its activities have expanded over time. It now includes films, videos, dance performances, improv comedy, visual arts and more. Even then, he took notice of Jae but lacked the courage to approach her.

After two weeks of dating, the couple discovered they were in love.
